Grief and the God who stays

Grief rarely follows the timeline other people expect of it. It returns in ordinary moments, without warning, long after the condolences stop.

The Bible refuses to rush mourning. Lament has its own book. Jesus wept at a grave he was about to open.

Comfort in Scripture is usually not an explanation. It is a promise of company, of a God who does not withdraw when the sorrow lasts longer than anyone hoped.

If you are grieving, let Scripture sit with you rather than lecture you, and let trusted people carry what you cannot yet name.
